Training is delivered by accredited trainers from the North West Ambulance Service. The training is designed by the service to and places greater emphasis on early access defibrillation and oxygen therapy.
Often first responders are on scene before the ambulance or rapid response car, this is because we live in the community we are often much closer than the responding vehicles. The first few minutes can save lives and this is where the first responder can make a difference.
Our training typically covers:
- - Oxygen Therapy
- - Basic Life support
- - Automatic External Defibrillation
- - Control of Bleeding
- - Basic First Aid
- - Basic management of Medical Emergencies
- - Communications
- - Scene Safety and dynamic risk assessing
The team are assessed annually by paramedic staff from NWAS and also meet monthly for local training sessions.
During this meeting we also make time to debrief each other on any particularly difficult jobs, this is a great way for both self development and group development.

All essential equipment is provided free of charge to the group by North West Ambulance.
This equipment is standardised accross the region to provide greater consistency between teams.
